IT was another busy weekend for pony riders as they travelled to Ennis last Saturday to contest the third round of the Coolmore Stud Pony Premier Series. As this popular series is now approaching the final stage, competition went down to the wire with riders keen to stay top of the leaderboard ahead of the crucial round at Maryville on July 22nd next.

The 128 Under 10 Coolmore Stud Pony Premier saw 20 combinations go to post and of these, three maintained clean sheets in the jump-off.

Taking the honours were Kian Dore and Miss Giggles when they delivered a clear in 38.79 seconds. This is the second series win for this combination having also won at the opening round at Ard Chuain. Paddy Reape was fractions behind with Northlight Giorgio in 39.91 for second. The last clear was delivered by Katie Nallon and Piggy Bank in a time of 40.62 for third.

Paddy Reape and Vladimir (fourth) were fastest of the four-faulters (39.25). Placed sixth at Barnadown, Alice Wachman opted for a safe round with Heartbreaker but, despite this, a pole in on the floor in 51.25 meant they slotted into fifth. James Derwin and Ballyknock Master Roan also had one down albeit in a slower time of 54.59 for sixth.

This result places Derwin at the top of the leaderboard having finished runner-up at Ard Chuain and Barnadown.

In the 138cms division, 21 combinations battled it out for the €1,000 prize fund. Rhys Williams and Sligo Lux To Queeney led the victory lap.

One of only two clears in the timed round, this pairing stopped the clocked in 33.87 seconds. This was the second good result for them having finished sixth in the last round at Barnadown.

Tom Wachman and Fountain Ranger delivered the only other clear round in 34.87 to claim the runner-up spot. Winner at Barnadown, Francis Derwin proved that the time could be beaten when he clocked 37.09 with Ruby Brown, but four faults meant he slotted into third place on this occasion. Amy Reape and Ti Chip also beat the time when clocking 37.15, but a pole on the floor meant she finished just behind Derwin.

Alice Power and Bear Me In Mind also came home within the 38 second barrier (37.23), but four faults saw her take fifth place. Ava Shortall and Dizzy Rascal completed the top-six line-up when finishing on five faults in 50.29.

Ciaran Nallon and Kate Derwin dominated the 148cms division, taking two places each. Ciaran Nallon claimed victory when he lodged the winning round with Flintstone B clear in 30.39 seconds. Little stood between the next placing as Kate Derwin and Master Stevie G crossed the line clear in 31.85. Ciaran Nallon also took third when he delivered a clear with Dibidoe in 32.16, ahead of Jason Foley and More Clover who also kept everything in place in 32.63.
