Busy Ryan wins

green hunter

THERE were a few people who competed at both Millstreet and Tattersalls over the weekend including Diarmuid Ryan.

On Saturday morning, the Graiguenamanagh-based veterinary surgeon rode in the five-year-old young event horse Discovery final down south, finishing third on BT Just Special, and then travelled up to Co Meath where, among other rides, he partnered Dermot Molloy’s four-year-old Irish Draught gelding Cummermore Lad to win the green hunter working hunter class.

On Sunday, when he again had a number of rides in the showing area, Ryan jumped BT Just Special in the Main Arena. That I’m Special de Muze gelding and the four-year-old Heigh Ho Dubh gelding Cummermore Lad are just two of the horses Ryan has qualified for next week’s Dublin Horse Show.

St Francis fundraiser a big success

YOU have to hand it to the women who hunt with or support the Ward Union as not only were they in place early to relieve you of your contribution to the show’s fundraiser in aid of St Francis Hospice as you drove into the venue but they nabbed drivers and passengers on the way out as well!

Competition areas

well presented

HAVING volunteered at the international horse trials at Tattersalls Ireland for many years, it was sad to see the front fields so overgrown when arriving at the Co Meath sales complex early on Saturday morning.

Happily, thanks to the combined efforts of Cormac O’Rourke, who’s not long in the role of looking after the farm and maintenance, July Show committee members such as Tom Holden, Kieran Ryan and Gary Quinn, plus Daniel Rawluk of the Kildare North Leinster Area of the Irish Pony Society, the competition areas all looked as good as ever.

TopSpec makes top effort

THE working hunter ring at last weekend’s Tattersalls Ireland July Show was sponsored by TopSpec whose business development manager and equine nutritional advisor Shirley Jones was on site over the three days, filling her advisory role, being interviewed and presenting rosettes.

Perrin wins turnout prize

PART of Connolly’s Red Mills, the Carr & Day & Martin-sponsored turn-out prizes were awarded in all the showing championships at the Tattersalls Ireland July Show. In the Main Arena on Sunday that prize was presented to Nicola Perrin on board the reserve hunter champion, Rathmorrissey Lord Of The Dance.
