ON Saturday, 28 finalists lined out for the Absolute Jewellery Design five-year-old final at Cavan’s June Five-Day Summer Horse Show, with a prize fund of €1,500 on offer. Claiming the win was Jonathan Smyth with Molly Keane’s Oakport Lion Man, when double clear in 38.30 seconds. Bred by his owner, the gelding is by Cornet Obolensky and out of the Luidam-sired dam, Oakport Lui Cruise On. This combination has been consistently placed in the DAFM classes and just had one down in the last round of the Dublin Horse Show Qualifiers.

Megan McGettigan and the Kenneth Graham-owned Lenamore Air Display took second place, with a clear in 38.42. Bred by Geraldine Graham, the mare is by Echonix and out of the Aldato-sired dam, Lenamore Bella Donna. This is another consistent performer in the age classes and qualified for Balmoral Five-year-old Championship recently.

Luke Campbell and the Malcolm Keys-owned Incredible Quincy B took third, with a clear in 38.59. This gelding was bred by Michael O’Sullivan and is by Mr Quincy B and out of Wineport Supreme. This pairing has clocked up a series of results at 1.10m level of late. Slotting into fourth was Patick Williams aboard his own home-bred, MAC Coco G, with a clear in 39.07. This mare is by Comthago VDL and is out of the Ustinov-sired dam, Fivonia G.

Madeline Allen and her own home-bred, MP Momento, kept all the poles in place in a time of 40.30 for fifth place. This mare is by Daroento VDL and is out of the Coupe De Coeur-sired dam, Celah Sue De Rialfo Z. Completing the top six line-up was Tom Hearne and Mackenzies Minnie Mouse, with a clear in 40.60. Owned by Finola Heslin and bred by Karen Mackenzie, this mare is by Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve and out of Dyolita.

Six/seven-year-old final

On Sunday, the six/seven-year-old final took centre stage ahead of the feature event, the 1.50m Grand Prix. From the qualifier, 26 combinations booked their place in the €1,500 Cab Group class. Claiming the win was Emma O’Dwyer and the seven-year-old Cornascriebe Emmie, when they were fastest of six double clears in 38.73. O’Dwyer was chased home by Aidan O’Brien, who lodged a clear with Kieran O’Brien’s seven-year-old Baskin Centerfold, in 39.34 for second.

John Mulligan returned to the line-up, taking third with Francis Connolly’s seven-year-old, Tinkerbell VGW, when they came home with nothing to add in 43.67. A clear from Tim Macdonagh and the seven-year-old Ushi FFA Z in 44.90 secured them fourth place.

The highest-placed six-year-old was Kinmar Flash, campaigned by John McEntee and they came home with nothing to add in a time of 46.16 for fifth place. Owned by Katie McEntee, the mare was bred by Gerrard Marron and is by For Kinmar Hero Z and out of Kinmar Lady. This pairing has shown plenty of promise, finishing third in the six/seven-year-old Championship in Balmoral last month. Annie Courtney-Cadam had one on the ground with her six-year-old, LCC Peruza in 50.51 for sixth place. This mare is by Cape Coral RBF Z and is out of the Oklund-sired dam, Zerusa.
