THE 1.30m class on Sunday at Cavan’s February horse show saw 33 combinations start over the two-phase track. Twenty left all the fences intact through the first phase to progress to the timed second phase.
A total of 13 kept a clean sheet over both phases, with young rider Ben Cassidy proving best of these aboard Kathleen O’Riordan’s gelding Gembro. By Ustinov, he is out of Cluoca Ali, by Aldatus Z and was bred by Marcus O’Donnell. The duo recorded a time of 28.53 for the win.
Abby Morton and her mother Joanne’s mare Blueoak Legaland (Diamant De Semilly x Clinton), bred by Joe Reilly, were runners-up in 28.82.
Bill Maguire rode his own eight-year-old stallion Fados Starry Night (Van Gogh x Laughtons Flight), bred by Hiram Wood Hennessey, into third in 31.18.
Isabel Fitzpatrick and Donal Milmo-Penny’s Premier Lily (Premier Sport x Balou Du Rouet) slotted into fourth in 32.37, while Sven Hadley and Hibernia Horses’ Belgian-bred seven-year-old mare Toleen St took fifth in 33.55.
Michelle Kenny with Ellex Stables’ Sambuca H (Simba x Kannan), bred by Sheila White, were sixth in 33.80.
1.20m
Sven Hadley dominated in Sunday morning’s 1.20m Hibernia Sport horse league, taking the top two places.
He won the class riding his own stallion HSH Harper Du Seigneur (Aganix Du Seigneur x Chippison), recording a double clear and second phase time of 27.39.
Hadley also managed a double clear aboard his eight-year-old gelding Maximum Numero Too HSH (Aganix Du Seigneur x Numero Uno), bred by Eamon McArdle.
They stopped the clock at 27.73 for second place.
Third place went to Isabel Fitzpatrick aboard Harry and Barbara Fitzpatrick’s seven-year-old French-bred gelding Just Stanley in 28 seconds even.
Another seven-year-old, Eugene Ryan’s Glenvarna (Hector Van Abdijhoeve x Canturano), bred by S Crawford and ridden by Brid Ryan, took fourth in 28.93.
Junior Sophie Tobin rode John Kenny’s gelding Dreamworks (Celtic Hero Bz x Limerick), bred by Frank Gordon, into fifth, while Mia Cahill guided her mother Amanda’s HHS Calgary into sixth.
