DERRY’S Jordan Coyle showed his skill and remarkable consistency during the second week of the ESP Spring Series at Wellington International over the weekend, where he was among a number of Irish riders competing.
Thursday’s three-star $32,000 Brainjuice 1.45m two-phase special class saw two Irish riders finish in the top four. The 67-strong three-star $1,000 Bainbridge Companies 1.40m class on Thursday saw Paul O’Shea and Madonna place fourth with a double clear in a second-round time of 33.81, followed by Coyle on Cordiamo in fifth (34.56).
Two Coyles finished in the top five of Friday’s three-star $62,500 Zycosan Grand Prix Qualifier, when Jordan and Cordiamo were runners-up in the 49-strong class with a double clear in a jump-off time of 42.2. In Saturday’s 34-strong $5,000 1.35m Stake, Cormac Hanley and I Am-W finished on the podium in third place with a double clear round in 36.97. Peter Lutz (USA) claimed both first and second places riding Chichibu (34.94) and Casanova Z (35.83) respectively.

The other four jumped double clear, led by winner Ilan Bluman (COL) on Echo LVF.
The highlight of the show was Sunday’s three-star $120,000 1.50m Bainbridge Companies Grand Prix, but no Irish riders finished in the top 10. The class was won by an on-form Jad Dana (LBN) riding Itchcock Des Dames to a double clear round in a jump-off time of 44.35.
