WEXFORD Equestrian hosted an extra leg of the TRI Equestrian Interschools League last Sunday. This incorporated the finals of their own novice and primary leagues, which have been running for the past number of months.

The day commenced with the primary classes. Mayglass National School’s Ellie Keane and Kilmartin Pepsi, Aoife Robinson and Cotts Polly, Cora Goff riding Westside Mirah Bob and Lucy Day on Kilkisheen Girl were worthy winners of the primary teams’ class, which also secured the team second place in the Wexford league. Rathangan NS secured the league win when placing second on the day. Bobbys Boy ridden by Nicola Dyrek for Rathangan NS won the 55cm class, with Knocknacullen Bruno and Polly Murphy and Nancy and Robyn Murphy both from Rathangan in second and in third.

The 75cm individual class was won by Kilkisheen Girl ridden by Lucy Day for Mayglass NS, ahead of Honor Mannion and College Rose, who had travelled from Galway to compete. She represents Ballyglass National School. Day is currently in second place in the EII 75cm primary individual league, whilst Mannion is currently in third place. Arielle and Robyn Murphy for Rathangan NS placed third. Tempest Glenville (Ciara Sarsfield) Kilmore NS won the Aloga Wexford Primary 90 class, with Paddington Pal (Matthew Roche) Kilrane NS in second and Catch Me Now (Frankie Rath) from Screen in third.

Consistent run

The novice classes followed and Loreto Wexford continued their consistent run of firsts, when seeing off rivals Gorey Community School, who had to be content with second. Loreto’s other team were third. Curraghmore Sparrow ridden by Shannon Griffith, Wnda Toby and Caitlin Griffith, Firefly Kadie ridden by Izzy Bates and She’s for Luck with Amy Griffith represented Wexford, while Jacobs Ladder and Abbie Hill, Caraselle De Reve ridden by Cathal Murphy, Anvil Lady and Michelle Murphy and Head Honcho ridden by Joe Kehoe competed for Gorey. Bridgetown College, Presentation and Colaiste Abbain all gained league points. Yulia Di Nardi Maher riding Trendy Caruso Bella for Ard Scoil Na Trionoide won the Hopoti Novice Individual class, with Finn Monahan and Arthur for St Peter’s in second and Ballyglass’s Honor Mannion and College Rose in third.

In the Equieire novice 90cm qualifier, Mary Kate Kelly from Loreto put on a great display to place first. She was riding Ballynoe Liz. Donnacha Cousins from CBS Wexford was second on Rose Lauren and Joe Kehoe from Gorey on Head Honcho was third. Caitlin Griffith, Yulia Di Nardi Maher and Blake Kavanagh were also in the line-up.

Loreto Wexford also took home the red ribbons in the TRI Equestrian Open Team event, when Electric Bailey ridden by Aoife Griffith, The Causey Girl ridden by Freya Barry, Inch Hill Pippa and Isabel Walsh and Hop and Hannah Rose Roche pipped St Mary’s New Ross for the win. Coppenagh Comet ridden by Hannah Hennessy, Crows Grove Nelly and Mai Donavan and Swan View Cream of Dexter ridden by Kate Kavanagh competed. St Mary’s and Wexford also filled the third and fourth places. Brooke Sutton McGarry from Ramsgrange riding Achill won the TRI Equestrian open individual, ahead of Mia O’Donnell and Kinlough Lad riding for St Declan’s in second and Hannah Hennessy Murphy and Coppenagh Comet in third. Niamh Colfer, Ruby Reville and Kate Jordan were also placed and gained league points. Sutton McGarry (Ramsgrange) had to settle for second place in the Premier 110 class, behind Kate Kavanagh and Swanview Cream of Dexter, who posted the fastest time to win for St Mary’s New Ross.

This weekend, the penultimate competition takes place in Mullingar Equestrian, when the Fagan family host their popular Interschools day of competitions.
