THE Senior and Under 10 Pony Club mounted games teams enjoyed a truly memorable weekend in Chester where they proudly represented Wexford, alongside a dedicated group of parents and supporters. While competition was at the heart of the trip, it was the teamwork, friendships and fun that made it unforgettable.
Representing the Wexford Seniors were Mai Donovan on Oscar, Mia Kent on Coco, Emer Nolan on Archie, Ruby Sweetnam on Millie, Lucy Headon on Ned and Alex Shortt on Gerry. They were under the guidance of the ever-enthusiastic Michael Finn, who cheered them on in lucky socks and matching green hair! The team showed great spirit and determination after just eight weeks of training.
“This group of riders were a pleasure to train,” said Finn. “They’ve really bonded as a team and as friends and that’s what this is all about. They’ve supported each other, played well, and made lasting memories.”
The seniors earned a well-deserved sixth place in a highly competitive A Final, showing just how far they’ve come. Emer Nolan played brilliantly with the South Cheshire Hunt Team to secure third in the B final.
Impressive
The under 10s also impressed. Rhys O’Brien on Misty, Roisin Byrne on Belle, Lucy Kent on Joey, Anna Donovan on Bonnie and Katie Headon on Hobo worked brilliantly as a team, securing fifth place in their own A Final.
“Our team progressed so much this weekend,” said under-10 trainer Edel Nolan. “We’re so proud of them, they gave it their all and really came together.”
Hive of activity
Off the pitch, the Irish camp was a hive of activity, with everyone pitching in to cook and keep the group well fed. Team mums Pauline Sweetnam and Helena Kent were at the heart of it all, keeping things running smoothly and making sure everyone had what they needed.
Evenings were full of laughter and fun with camogie introduced to curious locals and rounders played well into twilight. The games may have ended, but the buzz around camp carried on.
Pony games is a sport like no other - fast-paced, fun and open to riders of all ages and abilities, regardless of their pony. It builds balance, confidence and coordination, while developing strong horsemanship and pony care skills. Most importantly, it is a true team sport where every rider counts and success depends on pulling together.
The teams, parents and trainers extend heartfelt thanks to their supporters and sponsors, Wynnstay Pony Club and to Jane Ryan and Chris Aherne in the Pony Club office, whose efforts make experiences like this possible.
It was a massive weekend — not just for results, but for everything that makes Pony Club so special.
