THE thoroughbred and Connemara themes continued at Glaslough (2) on Saturday in the five-runner EI110 (J) class won by Belfast’s Hannah Morrow who completed on her winning dressage score (29.5) with her mother Jane’s bay mare My Good Thyne Girl.
The nine-year-old daughter of the Irish Sport Horse sire Yeats was bred in Co Wicklow by Joan Rothwell out of the thoroughbred mare Late For Lunch (by Good Thyne) who comes from the family of the Grade A chase winner Killultagh Storm. With 7.2 cross-country time penalties, Kate Shields finished second on Brenda Turley’s 10-year-old I Love You Melody gelding, Melody Maker, with whom she has qualified for the Connemara performance hunter championship at next month’s Dublin Horse Show.
Ellen Douglas recorded her first EI110 (P) success when, on board her mother Elaine’s eight-year-old dun gelding Rock Tempo, she stepped up from her second-place finish here the last day.
Honours
Nine combinations started in the EI100 (J) class where the honours went to Aoife Cronin, a member of the Louth Branch of the Irish Pony Club, riding her mother Grainne’s Connemara gelding, Newgrange Danny Boy, a nine-year-old grey by Wings Of Justice. Their three-phase total of 41 included 5.2 time penalties.
There was a first Eventing Ireland success at any level in the EI100 (P) class for Ballyclare Secondary School pupil Tori Jewiss who was the only one to record a clear show jumping round in the four-runner class. With 4.4 cross-country time penalties, she topped the leaderboard on 34.7 with her mother Paula’s Connemara gelding Carraigoir Blaze, a 10-year-old by Moy Hazy Cove.
Felicity McConnell led from start to finish as she recorded her second EI90 (P) success from just two outings this season on her mother Joyce’s 10-year-old skewbald gelding Finding Nemo.
