JOANNE Quirke has dominated the racehorse to riding horse class at the Dublin Horse Show for the past four years, winning on Cooldine in 2013 and since then with Forpadydeplasterer.

The Kilbrew, Co Meath-based rider/producer returns to the RDS next week but this time with the French-bred gelding Rubi Light who last ran in March 2016.

The 12-year-old gelding by Network won one hurdle race and eight chases and was placed 18 times over jumps.

Eight of his victories came when he was transferred from his native country to the Ratoath yard of Robbie Hennessy.

Apart from the winner, Piri Wango, most of the horses who competed in the recent Irish Horse Welfare Trust Thoroughbred Club retired racehorse show series final at Tattersalls have been entered in next week’s class.

Also in the starting field will be the recently-retired First Lieutenant and Sir Des Champs, both of whom ran in the famous maroon and white colours of Michael O’Leary’s Gigginstown House Stud.

The Amory McMahon-ridden Kyllachy mare Via Del Corso, who is also entered in the small riding horse class, caught the eye of a number of judges around the country this year as she had to come through the qualifying system having just over €24,000 in career earnings.

In contrast, having amassed more than €550,000 for his connections, the French-bred Thousand Stars qualified through his performances on the racecourse.

That 13-year-old Grey Risk gelding will be ridden next week by leading amateur jockey Katie Walsh who was gifted the horse following his last run in early July 2016.

For most of his career, Thousand Stars was trained by Willie Mullins who sent him out to win 10 times and Walsh was in the saddle on two of those occasions, at Grade 2 and Grade 3 level, while also being placed on the grey in Grade 1 company.

Walsh is no stranger to competing at Dublin having ridden there in working hunter pony classes for Trish O’Connor while she partnered her own Cruising mare Wagamama to finish fifth in the five-year-old young event horse class in 2008.

During her years as an event rider, Katie represented Ireland at European Junior and Young Riders championships on the home-bred Stoneybrook.
