It might be worth chancing newcomer Zanndabad. This son of Iffraaj was acquired for €240,000 from a Deauville horses-in-training sale after winning four times on the flat in France and was rated in the low 90s on the flat.

Tony Martin is having a good season and he could have a nice juvenile hurdler on his hands.

Tekao disappointed on his debut over hurdles, third to Comfort Zone, but he should be better now with that fitness and experience banked. The same owner J.P. McManus has Goodie Two Shoes who is another smart type coming off the flat.

12.35 Paddy Power “From The Horse’s Mouth Podcast” Beginners Chase 2m 1f

It’s hard to take on Dysart Dynamo, who was impressive in his first two hurdles starts last season and was in the process of running a big race in the Supreme when he took a late fall. That contest could hardly be working out better and though he is a free-going, exuberant type potentially liable to making mistakes over these larger obstacles, he may get away with that here.

Slip Of The Tongue might be best placed to give the selection most to do.

He was a useful hurdler last term, rated 143, and he finished ahead of Sea Ducor on his chase debut, when fourth to Fil Dor at Navan, albeit he was beaten a distance.

2.20 Paddy Power “Je Suis Une Baguette” Handicap Hurdle 2m

It might be worth taking a chance on Gold Speed. He finished fourth in this race two seasons ago and arrives back here having had just three runs since, but he ran a huge race off a 525-day break when second to Dollys Destination at Navan. He’s 4lbs lower than his last appearance in this contest and should strip fitter now.

Watch House Cross looks a big contender. He was maiden hurdle over this course and distance at this festival last season and has already landed a big handicap hurdle having taken the Brown Lad at Naas on his seasonal debut. He has 6lbs for that but it shouldn’t stop him from getting involved.

Winter Fog is an interesting proposition. He was well touted for big staying handicap hurdles more than once last season, notably finishing fourth in the Pertemps Final, but has now switched from Emmet to Willie Mullins and comes back to two miles.

3.00 Paddy Power Chase (Grade B) 3m 50yds

There is a bit of a role reversal between Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott here, with the champion trainer responsible for nine of the declarations (including one reserve) and Elliott with only three runners.

It’s interesting Paul Townend has opted to ride top weight Ciel De Neige who is lightly raced and has some smart form but all over much shorter than this trip. It’s fair show of confidence by Townend so that runner deserves respect but at bigger prices, both Mr Incredible and Carefully Selected make more appeal.

Mr Incredible was in a lot of horse-to-follow lists last season but disappointed after winning his beginners’ chase. He’s still only six and it’s very interesting that Paul Byrne bought him and moved him to Willie Mullins. Byrne’s colours were carried to second in this race before with The Crafty Butcher.

Carefully Selected hasn’t been seen since disappointing at odds-on in the National Hunt Chase two seasons back but was a nice novice chaser that season and has had no problems running off a long break before, so he could well pick up where he left off.

One more to consider is Ain’t That A Shame whose Munster National second was well advertised by the subsequent exploits of The Big Dog.

3.35 “Paddy Power Flat One” INH Flat Race 2m 4f

Willie Mullins has won this race with some notable bumper horses, including Appreciate It, so Fact To File is an interesting runner, but Will Do makes more appeal for Gordon Elliott. There was a lot to like about his track debut in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown where he split two useful types in Monbeg Park and Seabank Bistro. A similar effort on the level here should see him go close.

Nearly all of the runners here come from the point-to-point field and are worth monitoring in the market. Irish Panther catches the eye for Edward O’Grady, who trains the gelding for Sean and Bernadine Mulryan, who won this race last year with Embassy Gardens.
