THE Frankel bandwagon rolls on and the Banstead Manor stallion now has a number of leading Derby fancies.
The latest to add his name to likely contenders for the classic was yesterday’s Group 3 Bet365 Classic Trial winner Cunco, who battled hard to beat Intern, with another son of Frankel, Frankuus, back in third. Atty Persse, acquired by Godolphin following his successful sole outing at two, made it two from two in the Esher Cup at Sandown yesterday and this blueblood still holds an entry in the Epsom Derby in June.
Earlier in the week owner/breeder Anthony Oppenheimer combined with trainer John Gosden and Frankie Dettori to win the Investec Derby Trial at Epsom with the unbeaten Cracksman.
Also at Sandown yesterday there was a 1-2 for Dark Angel as Sovereign Debt denied fellow eight-year-old Gabrial to land the Group 2 bet365 Mile.
The Group 3 bet365 Gordon Richards Stakes over a mile and two furlongs went to Ulysses who got the better of Aidan O’Brien’s Deauville.
MORE than 80,000 people to date have viewed the Tommy Stack interview conducted with the recently retired trainer by The Irish Field’s editor Leo Powell.
The interview was released in three parts before the running of this year’s Aintree Grand National and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Red Rum’s historic third win in the race. The videos are available to view still, free of charge, on The Irish Field website.
“We have been overwhelmed by the interest in the interview,” Powell said this week.
“Of course we knew that Tommy is hugely popular and the content would be of great interest, but the scale of that interest has blown us away.
“In addition to the Grand National story, Tommy shared many other memories, good and bad, and it was one of the most enjoyable projects I have been involved with.”
