Charlie Appleby told Godolphin: “The 2000 Guineas has always been the long-term plan (for Quorto) and, following discussions with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, we have decided to put him away for the year. He has done exceptionally well in his first year, winning a Group 2 and Group 1, and he is progressing all the time.”

John Gosden’s colt, winner of the Group 2 Champagne Stakes, now looks to have a fine opportunity of making the same progression in the seven-furlong Group 1 on Saturday, October 13th.

However, the complexion of the race could change this weekend, following the running of today’s Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket and tomorrow’s Group 2 Beresford Stakes at Naas.

Two colts confirmed to be on target for the Dewhurst are the impressive Doncaster listed winner Sangarius, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, and the Phoenix Stakes winner Advertise, trained by Martyn Meade.
