THE 2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain will stand at the Irish National Stud in 2015.

The now 10-year-old was a winner of 11 races over six seasons of racing. Trained by Alain de Royer Dupre in France, he won the Group 2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier over a mile and seven furlongs and the Group 2 Prix Kergorlay. In Australia he also won the Geelong Cup and Group 2 Zipping Classic over a mile and a half.

Americain achieved a Timeform rating of 127 before embarking on his stallion career at Calumet Farm.

Calumet owner Brad Kelley, who will support the son of Dynaformer at stud, said: “This world champion will produce champions and we want him to become a world class sire.”

Irish National Stud chief executive John Osborne said: “The handsome Americain will be popular on looks alone and his first foals have his strength and quality. He will bring balance to our roster which is dominated by speed influences. Americain’s pedigree has class in every generation and his sire was revered in America and a classic sire in Europe. Americain can emulate that, given the support his race-record deserves. Mr Kelley will be keen to race his stock.”

Americain will stand at €5,000 and will be available to view from next week during the ITM Stallion Trail.
