1:45 FORAN EQUINE EBF AUCTION MAIDEN 5F 182Y

Edmond Kent’s Kimono Girl performed with real credit on her racecourse debut at Tipperary, finishing second to Raramauri, and she looks the one to beat. The daughter of Lord Shanakill was prominent all the way before picking up well to chase the winner and she progressively got better as the race went on. She also had three of today’s rivals – So Enjoy, Downtown Diva and Stewardess – in behind her. She has more scope to improve than each of those horses as this is just her second start.

Sunday Smart ran well for Patrick Prendergast on her racecourse debut behind Brick By Brick in what looked a decent maiden, run in a solid time, at the Curragh. With improvement likely, she will have a big say here as well.

This looks like a good opportunity for Intelligence Cross who has a distinct advantage at the weights. Aidan O’Brien’s three-year-old has dined at some of the top tables in the sprinting division this season and although his fifth to Harry Angel in the July Cup might flatter, his all around form reads strongly in the context of this race.

His biggest danger is undoubtedly Mr Scarlet. Sheila Lavery’s runner will carry the same weight as the favourite but is actually only 5lbs wrong on official ratings. He also has a little bit more scope to improve as this will be only his seventh ever start so he is certainly not out of it.

Selection: INTELLIGENCE CROSS

Next best: Mr Scarlet

A chance is taken on Eddie Lynam’s Dierama, who won her maiden at this course earlier in the season. Since that maiden win, the daughter of Dark Angel has ran twice – disappointing in a good handicap at the Curragh and then catching the eye in a lower level handicap at Leopardstown where she met interference in her run. Returning to Navan off a mark of 72, she is of interest in an open race.

A Likely Story should also have a big say. He is another who has run well at this course before and he looks competitively handicapped after his second to Handsome Maverick in a 26-runner contest at the Curragh last time out.

Selection: DIERAMA

3:30 IRISH STALLION FARMS EBF PREMIER NURSERY 5F

Only six runners for the feature race but it is difficult to rule any of them out. A tentative vote goes to Jessica Harrington’s Brick By Brick, who got his head in front on the fifth time of asking at the Curragh last time out. The son of Big Bad Bob may be able to improve now and he already has some good form at Navan in the book, having finished second to Ken Condon’s useful Romanised on his seasonal debut.

The second vote goes to My Silver Nails, who represents the in-form Michael Mulvany team, who have sent out three winners from their previous four runners in recent weeks. My Silver Nails was one of those winners, having taken a nursery in good style at the Curragh, and he can go well again off a 6lb higher mark.

It will be no surprise to see High Expectations popular in the betting after his impressive win at Bellewstown during the week. Gordon Elliott’s runner must carry a 6lb penalty for that performance but that represents a lenient assessment considering his future rating is likely to be at least a three or four pounds higher than the mark he will race off. That said, this looks a deeper race and he has 22 rivals to face.

Lucca has been progressive this season and ran well again at Killarney on his latest run, but the second vote goes to Baby Jake, who was a little disappointing over hurdles on his previous run but had been very impressive when winning at Bellewstown on the flat before that.

Selection: BABY JAKE

Frima should be up to winning this. Dermot Weld’s filly hasn’t been seen since the beginning of July when she finished second in a Gowran Park maiden. But the form of that maiden is strong with the winner and third, Pearl Of The West and Flaming Sea, both went on to win at the Galway Festival and are now rated 90 and 83 respectively.

Inscribe is an interesting contender on his first start for Ger Lyons since arriving from Sir Michael Stoute’s yard. However, it is interesting that stable jockey Colin Keane isn’t riding him and instead is on Sally Gap for Tom McCourt. The daughter of Vale Of York has improved on her last two runs and can go close again today.

A tentative vote goes to Jessica Harrington’s Shawami, who has shown signs of improvement recently, most notably on her previous run at Leopardstown where she was beaten less than a length by Delaire in a 22-runner field.

The Last Indian may have a say. He showed the first real sign of his ability when winning at Tipperary last time out and although up 8lbs for that effort, he may be able to improve again. No Way Jack and Emily Square rate as solid propositions given their recent consistency.

Walkabout could be a very tough nut to crack. Gordon Elliott’s runner was last seen winning a handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe in really good style from The Irregular, who has since franked the form by winning on his next start. The handicapper moved Walkabout up to a hurdles mark of 125 so he could be absolutely thrown in here off his flat rating of 49. The in-form Declan McDonogh takes the ride and everything looks set for a big run.

The three-year-old fillies, Mearu, trained by Jim Bolger and Dot Love’s All The Mollies, are worth consideration. Slight preference is for the latter who ran well at the Galway and Killarney festivals, on her first two starts for Love, for whom she seems to have improved.

Selection: WALKABOUT
