Key stakeholders from across the racing industry, government, local business sector, and community organisations gathered at Tipperary Racecourse this week for a progress report event on the development of the county’s new all-weather track.

The event provided attendees with an opportunity to review the significant progress made to date on the landmark project, which is expected to enhance Ireland’s racing infrastructure, support year-round racing activity, and deliver substantial economic benefits for the region.

Representatives from the racing sector, elected officials, government agencies, local enterprise groups, tourism organisations, and community representatives were welcomed to the site, where Andrew Hogan, Racecourse Manager, and Maurice Moloney, Chair of Tipperary Racecourse Committee, outlined construction milestones achieved and detailed the next phases of development.

Attendees heard updates on key infrastructure works, sustainability measures incorporated into the design, and the anticipated timeline for completion of the various phases of the project.

The project has received strong support from both national and local stakeholders, reflecting its potential to create employment, stimulate tourism, and strengthen Tipperary’s position as a leading centre for equine excellence.

Speaking at the progress update, Andrew Hogan, Tipperary Racecourse Manager, said: “The development of the new all-weather track represents a major investment in the future of Irish racing and in the economic vitality of Tipperary. The progress update this week demonstrates the strong momentum behind the project and the collaborative effort in Tipperary town and the region, that continues to drive it forward.

“Ongoing engagement between Tipperary Racecourse, the project team and everyone who attended the progress update, throughout the entire construction process, is very important for us. We look forward to hosting further progress updates, as the project develops and advances towards completion.”

Suzanne Eade, CEO of Horse Racing Ireland, commented: “The new all-weather track is a key strategic objective for Horse Racing Ireland, providing accessible racing and training facilities for Tipperary and the south of the country. In addition, the opportunities it will create for tourism, hospitality and related services are significant, and will have a lasting positive impact on the local economy.

“It was very encouraging to see the momentum and positive engagement at the progress update. This transformative facility is moving forward with great purpose, and the enthusiasm from everyone involved reinforces how vital this second all-weather track will be for the future, sustainability, and year-round growth of Irish racing.”

Construction remains on schedule, to be completed by the end of September 2027 with a view to staging a full winter race programme in 2027/28.

Atlantic Golf Construction (AGC Ventures Limited), based in Ballybunion, County Kerry are the main contractors.

Martin Collins Enterprises Ltd are installing the polytrack racing surface, while the floodlights at the venue will be provided by McSherry Electrical Limited, based in Mallow, County Cork.
