ASCOT Racecourse has installed 1,200 solar panels across its 480-metre grandstand in what is believed to be one of the largest rooftop solar installations across UK sport.

The team at Gary and Josh Moore Racing have taken similar steps to reduce their costs and improve energy resilience by installing solar panels at their stables.

Gowran Park and Ballinrobe racecourses have full solar rooftop installations. Tipperary’s new grandstand has been flagged for solar panels, while Dundalk Stadium is reportedly looking at a significant installation on land adjacent to the track. The IHRB recently installed rooftop PV on its offices in Kildare.

Ireland’s connected solar capacity has almost quadrupled (+300%) since 2023, and in July almost 6% of all electricity generated in Ireland came from solar sources.

The Irish Field is staging a solar energy information evening at 6pm on Monday, August 24th at Kildangan Stud in Monasterevin, Co Kildare.

Open to all, the free event is being run in association with the Irish Farmers Association and Bord Gáis Energy
