Racing at Cork was abandoned ahead of the feature Irish Stallion Farms EBF Navigation Stakes due to high winds.

The opening four contests on the eight-race card had taken place without incident but persistently strong winds appeared to become worse during the fourth race.

A decision was made to delay the meeting by 30 minutes in the hope the winds would die down, but the high winds persisted causing parts of railing on the track to be blown down and after the initial delay the decision was taken to call off the final four races of the meeting.

A statement from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board said: “Following the running of race four, the Raceday Stewards heard from a delegation of Senior Riders, the IHRB clerk of the course and the Racecourse Manager, in relation to the deteriorating weather conditions.

“Having considered all the evidence and in the safety of everyone involved, the Raceday Stewards abandoned the remaining four races.”
