Daryz will not race again this season but he will remain in training for 2026, the Aga Khan Studs has confirmed.
The three-year-old Sea The Stars colt gave the Aga Khan family a record eighth victory in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe last Sunday. His victory has been rated the best performance in Europe this season, earning a Timeform rating of 131.
Nemone Routh, racing manager of the Aga Khan Studs in France, said on Thursday: “Daryz has taken his race very well and is in good form following his top-class performance. He is a beautiful horse who resembles his sire and has a great constitution. He progressed throughout the season and we are very much looking forward to seeing what he can accomplish next year.”
Trained by Francis Graffard, Daryz was a winner on debut in April and has now won five of his seven starts in seven months. His stakes record also includes victories in the Listed Prix Ridgway and the Group 2 Prix Eugène Adam, both over 10 furlongs.
His Arc success could be said to have been written in the stars, as both his parents won on Arc weekend in 2009, 16 years ago.
A day before Sea The Stars won the Arc, his dam Daryakana captured the Group 2 Prix de Royallieu before going on to win the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase.
Daryz is the second Group 1 winner out of the Selkirk mare, who has produced six stakes winners in total. Retired earlier this year, Daryakana is now enjoying a peaceful life at the Aga Khan Studs, having given birth to a filly foal by Erevann in February.
