I thought Vert De Grece (32-pace adjusted 35) was a good bet to take the Futurity Stakes following his smart win at Leopardstown where he finished so fast. Unfortunately the early pace wasn’t that strong and the winner Gleneagles (33-pace adjusted 36) had a very decent lead when Vert De Grece finally got rolling in the last quarter mile and he was closing the winner down quickly approaching the line.

Gleneagles is a good-bodied, mature colt who may prove a bit short of Group 1 class if my ratings are any guide. You could say the same of Vert De Grece but for the fact he is so obviously crying out for a longer distance. Here he looked like a 10-furlong horse running against a miler.

Raydara shows stamina: Raydara (37) had been rather swamped for finishing speed in the Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown. A strong early pace helped her come from last to mow down her rivals and win the Debutante Stakes going away. She’s a strong sort and looks more a middle distance type than a miler to me. Indeed, her dam won over a mile and a half.

The runner-up Lucida (37) is a pacier sort, well balanced, attractive and classy looking. She couldn’t quite hold the winner’s late charge but beat the rest clearly. She’ll surely have a good chance in the Moyglare.

Ainippe well able: Ainippe (37) chased a tearaway leader then kicked on to clock a fast time when winning The Irish Field Curragh Stakes. She’s now won both her starts to date and may take on Tiggy Wiggy and co in the Cheveley Park. She’d have a decent shot there on this showing.
