FRANKIE Dettori was at his best when partnering Ruler Of The World to victory in the Prix Foy. He decided to employ waiting in front tactics and did so to perfection.

Kicking on from one and a half out, none of the others were able to extend the Aidan O’Brien-trained colt who is jointly owned by Al Shaqab Racing and Coolmore.

Ruler Of The World had a comfortable length and a half to spare over Flintshire at the post with Spiritjim the same distance away third.

O’Brien has excelled with the son of Galileo who was running for the first time since running down the field in the Dubai World Cup at Meydan back in March. Ruler Of The World was also visiting the winner’s enclosure for the first time since winning the Investec Derby at Epsom just over 15 months ago.

Harry Herbert was over the moon. He commented: “That’s fantastic as he’s been off so long. Frankie gave him a peach of a ride and he might be another bullet to fire in the Arc. Aidan O’Brien has done a great job and was right to come here and not run at Leopardstown.

“It is incredible to have so many top horses to run in the Arc and we must now discuss plans with the owners.”

Ruler Of The World set up a record time of 2m 26.93secs for the Foy but the last horse to go on and land the Arc was Sagace in 1984.

Dettori commented: “It’s not every day that I have the chance of riding an Epsom Derby winner.

“He’s a good horse and perfect for the Arc but we must wait and see what the opposition looks like. I missed a winning ride last year and would like to party after the race this year.”

For the moment, Dettori looks likely to be on board either the Prix Niel winner Ectot or Ruler Of The World. If the going remains good, Flintshire may well take his chance and Bary intends to run Spiritjim who was racing for the first time since being disqualified from the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud after failing a dope test.

“Rendezvous in three weeks and I would prefer softer ground and a stronger pace,” commented Bary.
