MEATH trainer Gavin Cromwell spotted the perfect opportunity for his three-year-old Famous Milly in the Listed 188Bet Fillies’ Juvenile Hurdle. Allowed to start at 10/1 in a race which did not look the strongest for the grade, she cruised through to pick off Paul Nicholls’ 4/5 favourite Malaya and went right away to score by 17 lengths.
The ground was officially heavy and Famous Milly’s price probably owed plenty to the fact that her form on the level was mainly at up to a mile but she finished in a promising second on her hurdles debut. On Saturday, she turned for home pulling double and went on to score easily. She is a taking individual and this may be the time of year to strike again with her.
Nicholls was denied there but won the opening novices’ hurdle with 5/4 favourite Mont Des Avaloirs, successful jockey Sean Bowen following up on Play The Ace for his father Peter.
After a quiet spell when some of his best horses left the yard, Ian Williams has been in fine form under both codes and took the 188Bet Grand Sefton Handicap Chase over the Mildmay Course with 9/2 market leader Gas Line Boy. The winner completed a big day for Robbie Dunne, who rode a fine race on the 11-year-old.
