CLIENTS of Chris Waller have bought a half-share in the Aidan O’Brien-trained Adelaide.

Due to run in the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington this weekend, the move would firm the prospect of Adelaide taking on the Group 1 Cox Plate on the last weekend of October.

Adelaide is one of two Ballydoyle entries for the Cox Plate, the other is Magician. They are two of the 29 international entries that combine with the locals to number 158 in all.

The deal brokered by Coolmore’s James Bester would see Adelaide remain in Aidan O’Brien’s name until after the Cox Plate where he would likely transfer to the care of Chris Waller.

“Now Adelaide has new Australian connections, the prospect of running in the Cox Plate has become more attractive,’’ said Bester. “He’s entered, but he still needs to be invited.”
