RANVET STAKES

(GROUP 1)

THE French-bred Deportivo gelding Gailo Chop has provided Australia’s leading trainer Darren Weir with his first Group 1 win in Sydney. Sent out ‘in the red’ for the Ranvet Stakes over 2,000 metres, Gailo Chop cruised to the lead on the bend before running away for a three-length win.

Full of confidence, Weir indicated Gailo Chop will return to Rosehill today for the Group 1 Tancred Stakes before taking on Winx in the Queen Elizabeth. “We’ll probably be running for second but if he gets through next Saturday then it’s likely,” he said.

GALAXY

(GROUP 1)

JUST seven years into his training career Ben Smith landed his first Group 1 win when his Time Thief mare In Her Time landed the Galaxy over 1,100 metres at Rosehill on Saturday. Ridden confidently by Zac Purton, In Her Time cruised to the lead before kicking clear to hold off English. “This is something we’ve wanted to do with this mare for such a long time,” said Smith. “She’s a lot bigger and stronger this time and the foot problems that niggled her were gone.”

In Her Time will now progress to the $2.5 million TJ Smith Stakes on April 7th.
