THE Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale has knocked the records out of the park with Book 1, held over four sessions, breaking the record for the highest grossing sale in the Southern Hemisphere. With a top sale of A$2 million for the I Am Invincible colt out of Tai Tai Tess, a further eight yearlings sold for a million dollars or greater – three being by I Am Invincible, three by Snitzel and the remainder by Fastnet Rock, Pierro and Redoute’s Choice. All were colts bar two Snitzel fillies.

The sale averaged $228,000 for 684 lots sold with the median at $170,000. The clearance rate was 89 per cent and the sale aggregate $134,292,500.

“We’ve closed out with the highest grossing yearling sale ever in the Southern Hemisphere,” said Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox who is soon to join Godolphin.

“The previous record was back in 2008 (Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale). It’s been a wonderful sale and it’s a wonderful result for Magic Millions and obviously a massive result for our breeders.

WONDERFUL POSITION

“We’re in a wonderful position being the number one sales company in the Southern Hemisphere for a while now and with this sale being as strong as it is, really gives us a great platform going forward to attract even better horses and quality buyers.”

Adding weight to the result was the absence of big buyers from previous years, Shadwell Stud, the Hong Kong Jockey Club and US agent John Moynihan.

Heading the sires’ averages was Snitzel (average of $483,788 for 33 sold) just ahead of I Am Invincible ($478,649 from 37 sold) and Redoute’s Choice ($405,667 from 15 sold).

Of the vendors three averaged over $400,000; Yarraman Park Stud ($427,143 from 21 sold), Eureka Stud ($416,250 from 4 sold) and Segenhoe Stud Australia ($409,211 from 19 sold), while eight of the vendors grossed over $6 million, led by Arrowfield Stud whose 46 yearlings to sell made a whopping $13,680,000. Next best were Yarraman Park Stud ($8,970,000 for 21 sold), Coolmore Stud ($8,140,000 for 38 sold) and Baramul Stud ($8,085,000 for 45 sold).
