THE Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale concluded last week with seven mares from the three-day Book 1 catalogue making greater than A$1 million.

The top lot was Gregers, a Group 2 winning Commands mare in-foal to Written Tycoon, sold for $1.75 million to Yu Long’s Yousheng Zhang.

That sale just shaded the $1.7 million spent to secure the Savabeel filly Nurse Kitchen who was bought as a racing prospect by the China Horse Club. Overall, Book 1 averaged $148,020 for 716 lots sold at a clearance rate of 84% and a median of $80,000.

$1.1 million

There were 37 fillies and mares sold for $500,000 or greater, with Irish agents Adrian Nicol and Dermot Farrington amongst the action.

Nicol stepped in for three mares, highlighted by the $1.1 million paid for The Party Stand, a Group 1 winner in-foal to Snitzel.

Farrington added his name to nine sales, five of those with the Cable Bay Syndicate, who were securing mares to support the son of Invincible Spirit [Cable Bay] who will shuttle from Highclere Stud to stand his first season at Woodside in Victoria in partnership with Rick Jamieson’s Gilgai Farm.
