Winx on trial

WINX made her first official appearance of the season on Monday at Randwick. Given an easy time of it she was seventh in her trial but pleased both Chris Waller and Hugh Bowman. “Everyday I am looking for negative body language but I don’t see it,” said Waller.

“I am looking for her pinning her ears back when people walk into her stable, I don’t see it. I’m just looking for a happy horse and I do see it.

“Obviously she didn’t figure in the first three but that was never the plan, the plan was to get around safely.”

The Street Cry mare, an earner of A$18.9 million will return to the trials in 10-14 days time.

GREY SAYS NO!

On the same day, one of Australia’s best sprinters, Chautauqua, again refused to jump from the barriers at Monday’s trials at Randwick, having failed to participate last autumn.

Racing New South Wales stewards have told trainer John Hawkes that Chautauqua must pass a series of trials in order to take his place in the A$13 million Everest Stakes.

Meanwhile The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that world famous horse whisperer Monty Roberts has offered his services to connections of Chautauqua. The 83-year-old told Fairfax Media: “This kind of thing that’s happened to Chautauqua is not uncommon at all. I know why, and I know how to fix it. I’ll do it in a week. I’ve done it with Pakistan Star in Hong Kong and I can do it with him.
