Rosehill - Coolmore Classic (Group 1)

PURCHASED for US$500,000 at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale in 2018 by Newgate Farm, Con Te Partiro became a stakes winner in three countries after winning the Group 1 Coolmore Classic for fillies and mares over 1,500 metres at Rosehill last Saturday.

The six-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy is trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, who convinced Newgate to put her back in work once she missed the breeding season. In the wet and tough ground conditions, she broke clear on the bend to win by over a length from the Frankel mare Miss Fabulass and the Foxwedge mare Noire.

A 2017 Sandringham Handicap winner at Royal Ascot when trained by Wesley Ward, Con Te Partiro will press on to either the Doncaster Mile at Randwick on April 4th or the Coolmore Legacy Stakes a week later.

“She can be a bit quirky at times, but we have just kept her in her routine and the team that has worked with her have done a fantastic job because she can be high maintenance at times,” said Bott. “She’s a stakes winner in America, a stakes winner at Royal Ascot and now a Group 1 winner here.”

Marquand wins on Prague

TOM Marquand was quick to get back in the winner’s circle. On his second ride he landed the Group 3 Pago Pago Stakes aboard Prague, and will be back on the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Redoute’s Choice colt in today’s $3.5 million Golden Slipper Stakes. Prague is on the third line of betting behind Hanseatic, Farnan and the race favouirte Tagaloa, the Blue Diamond Stakes winner.

Peter Moody back in training ranks

PETER Moody, who famously guided Black Caviar through her unbeaten career has been granted a return to the racetrack after successfully applying for his training licence through Racing Victoria.

Moody had not trained since handing in his licence four years ago after being embroiled in the cobalt affair in Victoria. Moody plans to take 35 to 40 boxes at Pakenham, south-east of Melbourne.
