BOOK One of the Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale went out with a bang on Saturday night when the I Am Invincible colt out of the Snitzel group winner Oakleigh Girl, herself a 2014 Magic Millions 2YO Classic runner-up, topped the sale at A$1.7 million.

“We thought he would pass the million, but we didn’t know where he would stop,” said Lloyd Kennewell who along with Group One Bloodstock, Aquis Farm and Ozzie Kheir, outbid Godolphin to secure the colt. “He’s the sort of horse who looks ideal for the race next year, or races like the Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper. I know the breed very well and he’s one of the best colts I’ve seen by I Am Invincible.”

With Book One’s four sessions complete, the sale matched the stellar performance of last year to gross $169,545,000 at an average of $239,809 for 707 lots sold of 806 offered. The median, as per last year was $170,000.

“These are probably results that were beyond our expectations and also the industry’s expectation,” said Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch.

While Medaglia D’Oro topped the stallion averages at $633,750 for four sold, and Redoute’s Choice proved his enduring quality with 15 sold at an average of $549,667, the undisputed powerhouse of the sale was I Am Invincible.

The Yarraman Park-based son of Invincible Spirit, a Group 3 winner and Group 1-placed, had 55 yearlings sell for the monster gross of $24.345 million at an average of $442,636.

In all 11 yearlings made seven figures, headed by I Am Invincible (4), Redoute’s Choice (3), Medaglia D’Oro (2), Fastnet Rock and Zoustar.
