IRISH jockey Leigh Roche, seconded to Chris Waller for three months, is off to a flying start with one of the best resourced stables in the land.

Travelling to Newcastle last week, Roche won on the aptly-named Highleigh to post his second winner from 12 starts that include a further six placings.

Joining Roche at Rosehill is English jockey Charles Bishop who has had just the one ride so far. An email from Dermot Weld set off the chain of events that sees Roche in the Australian summer sun. “Dermot Weld sent Chris an email asking if we could utilise him for three months while the flat season winds down there,” said Waller’s racing manager Charlie Duckworth.

The stable threw Roche into the action less than 48 hours since landing, winning at his third ride on Austin.
