WEDNESDAY’s final session of the Inglis Easter Weanling and Broodmare Sale marked the end of 112 years of horse sales at the company’s famous Newmarket complex whose expansive fig tree in front of the circular parade ring symbolised an era now ended.
“Whilst understandably people are a bit emotional tonight at leaving Newmarket, I encourage everybody to look forward to what we have coming at Riverside Stables, because it truly is going to be a world-class precinct,” said Inglis managing director Mark Webster.
Capping off a sales period that saw $156 million spent on bloodstock at Newmarket since March 30th, the final session of the broodmare sale was highlighted by Godolphin’s 100% clearance rate for their 40 mares offered.
TOP PRICE
The top price for a broodmare was the A$500,000 paid by Aquis/Blue Sky Bloodstock for the unraced Fastnet Rock mare out of the Rock Of Gibraltar mare Ten Carat Rock, a three-quarter sister to Redoute’s Choice offered by Teeley Assets.
Overall the select mares averaged $45,568 with a median of $25,000. The clearance rate was 82% for the 299 mares sold. The weanlings were split into select and general categories with the select weanlings averaging $27,220 with a top price of $160,000 for a Dissident (Sebring) colt.
