RINGERDINGDING rung in another group win for Johnny Allen and trained Darren Weir, the trio taking out the Sandown Guineas from the Hinchinbrook filly Seabrook and Long Leaf, a Coolmore-owned Fastnet Rock colt.

“He’s a good horse,” said Darren Weir of the Sebring colt, bought through the Inglis Melbourne Premier for $170,000.

“It’s a bit heart-in-your-mouth stuff with him because he gets back and let’s rip late. He took all of the straight to get them and going forward he is a beauty.

“Now he’s got to be targeted towards the (Group 1) Australian Guineas, he is definitely the sort of horse that should be heading to that race.”

The win continued the momentum Johnny Allen has built over the spring a point not lost on the Co Cork native. “It’s been unbelievable. I’ve had a great couple of weeks. I’m getting great opportunities so I just have to make the most of them,” he said.

The point was also raised with Darren Weir who has long sung the praise of Allen, yet never seen him with the opportunities he’s had the past month. “He’s made himself a good rider,” said Weir.

“He always had the ability but just had to get the opportunity. More than often he gets the job done in these good races. He deserves everything he gets.”
