Diore furore gets out of hand

GINA Mangan was prevented from riding the no-hope outsider Diore Lia in the Derby today because she might have been a danger to the leading runners.

She conveniently got a ban for careless riding at Kempton on Wednesday night.

The whole escapade was to raise awareness for the charity. Hugo Palmer got it right – she was never going to win any prize money.

Ryan Moore, too, made the point “It is not quite like turning up at the start of the Formula 1 race driving a tractor, but it isn’t far off.”

So what next in the name of charity? Allowe someone serve in a Wimbledon final? Take one sideline cut in an All-Ireland Hurling Final?

Come into the ring of a heavyweight boxing title fight to throw one punch – for charity?

A strange week when the absolute no-hoper has more written about it than the Derby favourite.

If you want to give prize money to charity wouldn’t it be easiest to run in a race where you may win some?

“Our filly is the people’s champion now and I hope everyone gets behind her. The Queen is a patron of Great Ormonde Street and it’s my intention to speak to her about what has happened.”

Diore Lia’s owner-breeder Richard Aylward. Enough said!
