GALILEO continues to dominate the classic pictures, both with his colts and fillies. In the last two years looking at Found, Curvy, Wedding Vow, Minding, Alice Springs, all looking for a stud mate. Wouldn’t you love to be Fastnet Rock or War Front?

Kentucky coverage

Thankfully ATR took the NBC coverage of the Kentucky Derby and avoided any less interesting studio-based discussions. A great build-up where the access to the main players was tremendous and any celebrity input didn’t detract from the build up to the main attraction.

Straight up

THE French Guineas have been somewhat unsatisfactory races in recent years, with up to 20 runners trying to negotiate the bend into the Longchamp straight and high numbers being disadvantaged.

It’s typical that the year they are run on a straight course in Deauville, the fields are smaller than last year.

Hennessy First

KUDOS goes to trainer Robbie Hennessy for picking up two wins and over £10,800 with Mister First, who won twice within 24 hours at Perth on Wednesday and Thursday. When the big cats are away, the mice have to play.

Sizing the opportunity

OWNERS have every right to move their horses where ever they like and dividing their string among a few trainers is probably a wise move.

However, Sizing Granite’s move didn’t prove a total success last season as he left a trainer renowned for tutoring horses in fast accurate jumping and the one thing Sizing Granite needs to do this year is jump better.

Luska farewell

IT was a shame to learn of Luska Lad’s demise last weekend at Grennan point-to-point. He was a fine warrior of the jumping game for many years.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“IF you want to try this at home for yourself, get a heavy bag of shopping, hold it in your right hand and sprint up a really steep hill after a bus that you’ve just missed. Just when you think you are not going to catch up with the bus, shift the shopping over to the left-hand and you’ll get it.”

Racing UK’s James Willoughby explains on the channel on Wednesday, the extra impetus gained by a horse on changing its legs. Somehow I think, it’s 1/10 I’d still miss the bus and drop the shopping.
