IN further fallout from the 2018 Aquanita racing scandal, which saw eight members of Aquanita Racing found guilty of 271 charges relating to the illegal raceday administration of bicarbonate soda, Racing Victoria stewards are planning to disqualify up to 81 Aquanita starters.
Horses affected include Politeness, who won the 2015 Group 1 Myer Classic, and other feature race winners, namely Mosheen, Shamal Wind, Members Joy and Black And Bent.
“Of the 81 starters for which a preliminary determination has been made that they be considered for disqualification, 24 were winners, 24 were minor placegetters and 33 were unplaced,” said Racing Victoria integrity manager Jamie Stier.
It is not clear at this stage whether Racing Victoria will ask for the return of disqualified prize money or will instead pay out the balance of stakes not received by horses upgraded in the placings.
Interestingly, Fenway was second to Politeness in the 2015 Myer Classic, so the corrected result will see the High Chaparral mare upgraded to being a dual Group 1 winner.
