1960

THE first ever evening fixture held at Wexford on Monday last was a most successful affair. The fine weather attracted a big crowd, particularly to the popular enclosure, and all present enjoyed some good racing.

Mr Bert Kerr, his brother Kevin and jockey Michael Kennedy shared in a good double with Rock Abbey and Marcel, while Mr Cecil Ronaldson had a double with Melodrama (F Carroll) and Another Flame, which he rode himself.

Mr Ronaldson rode with great dash to win the Carne and Kilmore Maiden Hurdle by a length and a half from Rock Lodge.

The Irish Field champions evening racing

1930

THE Irish Field was first with the suggestion several months ago that evening racing would be a desirable and profitable innovation in these days when the turf is in competition with other forms of sport. Last weekend racing at Limerick Junction was begun at 4pm. Moreover, prices for admission were substantially reduced.

The result was an attendance of gratifying size. The receipts were very considerably in excess of those for any other meeting there during the past four years. The programme was nothing out of the ordinary; yet the public thronged to the venue, proof being supplied thereby that, as we have often contended, if the convenience of the public is studied, its support will not be lacking.
