AN announcement of vital importance to racing and breeding was made on Friday of last week by Sir Gordon Richards, who stated that, as from Saturday last, the late Miss Dorothy Paget’s horses would run in the colours of Mr Michael Sobell, and that her stud farm in Ireland, Ballymacoll, would continue under the management of Mr Charlie Rogers.

Negotiations have been completed for the disposal of the entire racing stock of Miss Paget to Mr Sobell and a syndicate, and this means that horses that were to have been offered at Newmarket Sale next week will not come up.

Other owners besides Mr Sobell are concerned in the big transaction; their names have not yet been divulged, but Sir Gordon has stated that the policy of the new owners will be to continue racing and breeding on the best lines, and to contribute towards the long-term development of British and Irish bloodstock.

There are at present about 30 horses in training formerly owned by Miss Paget in Sir Gordon’s stable, and about 100 horses of various categories at Ballymacoll. Miss Paget left estate in Great Britain valued at £3,803,300 gross, but the bulk of it went in death duties.
