A.P. McCOY completed his first - and probably his last - marathon in London last Sunday. His finishing time of 4hr 50mins may not set any records, but he and the other members of the Matt Hampson Foundation team achieved plenty.

They’ve so far raised almost £125,000 for the Foundation, a charity which supports the rehab of young people who have suffered life-changing injuries playing sport. A.P. and many others in racing became familiar with the charity and its ‘Get Busy Living’ rehab centre in Leicester, as that is where former jockey Graham Lee receives his therapy.

Matt Hampson himself is wheelchair-bound and he led the marathon team, pushed all the way around the course by a team of four which included A.P., while 20 others wore the foundation’s red, black and white colours on the roads of London.

A.P. later posted on social media: “Much more enjoyable than I thought it would be, but I won’t be doing another one!”
