HRI’s new site for leasing horses

THE Ownership Department of Horse Racing Ireland has introduced a new leasing section online. The page outlines what to consider when leasing a horse and also allows trainers and breeders to freely advertise particular horses available for lease. All the horses advertised are in full training and the option of leasing for a set period is an ideal means of getting involved in ownership for the first time or as a longer term sustainable model. For further information, contact the Ownership Department of Horse Racing Ireland on 045 455455.

Plans hatched for Niarchos pair

THE Niarchos family is already planning a daring raid on both Group 1 races at Leopardstown on the first day of Irish Champions Weekend in September.

Alpha Centauri is on course to carry the famous Niarchos colours in the Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes on Saturday, September 15th, while the family’s Prix du Jockey Club winner Study Of Man is being aimed at the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes on the same card.

The Pascal Bary-trained colt has had a break since his victory in the Prix du Jockey Club and will be prepared for the Group 2 Guillaume D’Ornano at Deauville on August 15th, before his first main autumn target at Leopardstown a month later.

Late entries for July Sale next week

RECENT Navan maiden winner Understate has been added to next week’s Tattersalls July Sale. The three-year-old son of Oasis Dream is trained by Paddy Twomey and has a Timeform rating of 93. Also added to the catalogue is dual German Group 3 winner Degas, a five-year-old by Exceed And Excel. The three-day July Sale starts on Wednesday.

Irish Oaks plan confirmed

THE decision to step Sea Of Class up in trip for the Darley Irish Oaks was an easy one, trainer William Haggas has insisted. He reports the Sea The Stars filly to be “in good form” ahead of the trip to the Curragh on Saturday, July 21st, where she will feature over 12 furlongs for the first time. Haggas said: “It came down to the fact it’s a fillies’ classic which (owners Sunderland Holding) want to win. She would have gone to the Pretty Polly last Sunday and the Nassau at Goodwood if we were going to go down the mile-and-a-quarter route, but we decided to go for the Irish Oaks.”
