Sir,

I have just put down my copy of The Irish Field, a paper which I have bought every week for many years since my late uncle and racing writer, Raymond Smith, introduced me to racing.

I am writing as I feel compelled to congratulate you and the entire team on a first-class weekly publication.

Hats off this week to Anne Marie Duff for her insightful preview of the Arc in which she managed to throw a very accurate and not so mad dart at Torquator Tasso!

I read a lot of print media and The Irish Field is definitely the best and most enjoyable. It’s obviously not just our Irish horses that are world-class. Here’s to another 100 years of The Irish Field.

Yours etc.,

Mervyn Smith
