An unprecedented and challenging sales year at Tattersalls Ireland came to a close on Wednesday with a low-key edition of the November Flat Foal & Breeding Stock Sale which produced a top price of €45,000.
This one-day sale offered a selection of yearlings, foals and broodmares and of the 137 horses offered 72 were sold for a clearance rate of 53% which was just 2% down on last year. The day’s aggregate of €439,700 was 19% down on last year while the average of €6,107 fell by 3%. The median held steady at €3,000.
The yearling section of the sale produced most of the day’s notable transactions including the €45,000 sale-topper who is a daughter of Dawn Approach from Clare Manning's Boherguy Stud. She was knocked down to Clongan House. She is a half-sister to a winner.
ALL ABOUT THE GIRLS
Later in the day the BBA Ireland’s Patrick Cooper spent €33,000 on a filly from the second crop of Belardo who will be trained by Jessica Harrington and who will carry the colours of the It’s All About The Girls Syndicate. This filly comes from the family of Gavin Cromwell’s Group 2 winner Princess Yaiza.
“She’s a very nice filly by a sire who has done well with his first runners this year and she’s bred on the same cross as Lucky Vega who did so well for Jessica this year,” reported Cooper.
A trip to the breeze-up sales in the spring is the plan for a €21,000 colt by the unstoppable Mehmas who was picked up by Con Marnane. This colt comes from the family of the smart two-year-old Queenfisher.
Elsewhere Eddie Lynam will take charge of a €20,000 son of Mastercraftsman and this price was matched by No Nay Never half-sister to the Group 2-placed Annie Fior who was snapped up by BBA Ireland.
Easily the pick of the foals on offer was a €25,000 colt from the first crop of the Prix Morny winner Unfortunately. This Audrey Thompson-owned colt is a grandson of the Nunthorpe Stakes winner Lochangel and he was bought by Ivor Andray Bloodstock.
