1. Walk In The Park foals in demand

A feature of this year’s sale was the insatiable demand for the progeny of Walk In The Park. The sire of Douvan and Min as well as the prodigious point-to-point talents Ginto and Jonbon was responsible for 29 foals over the two days and 23 of these sold for an impressive €31,000 average.

These included the week’s top-priced foal which came when Pine Tree Stud forked out €82,000 for an especially well-related son of the Montjeu horse.

This colt was consigned by Yellowford Fam and he is the second produce of the winning Yeats mare Blixt who is a half-sister to the great dual Champion Hurdle winner Hurricane Fly. This is also the immediate family of last weekend’s Durkan Chase runner-up Tornado Flyer.

A return to the sales ring as a three-year-old is the plan for this colt and Pine Tree will also reoffer a €38,000 Walk In The Park colt and a €44,000 Doyen half-brother to the Grade 2-winning hurdler Harry Senior.

2. Molony pays €80,000 for Flemensfirth filly

This year’s round of National Hunt foal sales mark the end of an era as they play host to the final crop of foals produced by the elite sire Flemensfirth and the Alleged horse’s offering here were headed by a tremendous filly from John Dwan’s Ballyreddin Stud.

The bidding for her was opened at €50,000 by Peter Molony and a couple of minutes later the Rathmore Stud man struck the winning bid of €80,000. Molony’s purchase is a half-sister to the multiple Grade 2 winner and multiple Grade 1-placed Irish Saint. It will be decided in due course whether she will be reoffered or retained to race.

3. Adrian Costello recruits new Soldier

Also in great demand were the progeny of Soldier Of Fortune and the Galileo horse was responsible for a colt who cost Adrian Costello €72,000. From Ashwood Stud, he is out of a Grade 3-placed mare whose two winners are headed by the talented Impact Factor who recently returned from a lengthy break to land a Grade B handicap chase at Fairyhouse.

This colt could be reoffered as a three-year-old reported Costello who also spent €38,000 on a son of Mount Nelson from the family of Mr Mole and €44,000 on a Milan gelding.

Another established stallion to supply one of the week’s best foals was Westerner and Ferny Hollow’s sire was responsible for a colt from Conna Stud who cost agent John Kilbride €50,000. He is out of a half-sister to the Tolworth Hurdle winner Minella Class.

4. Form an orderly queue for George’s first crop foals

While the curtain has come down on Flemensfirth’s stud career the brilliant stayer Order Of St George is only in the formative stages of life as a stallion and he was represented by his first foals this week.

These were headed by a €65,000 colt consigned by Rathmore Stud on behalf of Mags Melody. Ben Case and Kevin Ross combined to land this half-brother to the exciting Seelotmorebusiness.

Earlier in the day Ross, acting for Chris Jones’ Killeen Glebe, forked out €38,000 for a son of Shantou who will be reoffered as a three-year-old.

Meanwhile, a return to the sales ring will be the plan for the only colt in the sale by No Risk At All who is the sire of such top-class performers as Epatante and Allaho. This relation to the Grade 1-winning Hinterland was offered by Galbertstown Stud and was snapped up by Glenwood Stud man Dick Frisby for €58,000.

5. Norman Williamson walks the Walk

Norman Williamson was among the others to sign for a quality Walk In The Park colt as he gave €50,000 for a son of the sire whose dam is an own-sister to Oscar Whisky. Williamson actually pinhooked Oscar Whisky and sold him at the Goffs Land Rover Sale before he went on to win two Aintree Hurdles.

Among the other popular Walk In The Park foals was a €48,000 colt related to Empire Of Dirt who was knocked down to Kieran Shields, who gave the same amount for a son of Flemensfirth from the family of Relegate the following afternoon.

Aiden Murphy also struck for a Walk In The Park when going to €48,000 for a colt from Milltown Park Stud who is out of a sister to God’s Own.
