MARIA O’Grady, wife of trainer Edward, died on Saturday following an accident while hunting.

A renowned horsewoman and hunting enthusiast, the Tipperary native was buried in the cemetery at Moyglass following a funeral mass that was attended by many hundreds of people from the world of horseracing and hunting.

It was not only as a horsewoman that Maria excelled, being highly proficient also in swimming, yoga and skiing. After attending St Andrew’s University she moved to London and a career in television production. Back in Dublin she joined Emdee Productions and became a partner. She produced and distributed many wonderful programmes, including the Waterways series with Dick Warner.

In 1998 she moved to Tipperary and met her husband-to-be Edward while out hunting. The couple enjoyed 18 years together and were blessed with two daughters, Mimi and Rosie Mae. Maria is survived by Edward, her two daughters, her extended family Jonathan, Amber and Lucy, her sister Katherine, brother-in-law Konrad, nephews Alex, Nick and Olly, sons-in-law Jed and Robert and their children Jasper, Freddie, Ned, Tristan, Hogan and Teddy.
