Eddie Lynam's Sole Power was a fast-finishing third as Fityaan repelled the Irish sprinter and Jungle Cat to claim a thrilling Meydan Sprint in Dubai on Saturday.

The Charlie Appleby-trained Jungle Cat was ridden positively from the start by William Buick, while Paul Hanagan delivered his challenge from wide aboard outsider Fityaan.

Lynam's multiple Group 1-winning sprinter was held up by Ryan Moore before producing his customary late burst, but it was all too late as Fityaan narrowly outpointed Jungle Cat, with the Irish challenger just behind in third.

Fityaan was a shock winner for local trainer Musabah Al Muhairi and the same handler was responsible for another surprise success when Special Fighter made all to win Round 3 of the Maktoum Challenge, a trial for the Dubai World Cup.

Godolphin registered a Group 1 win on the card when the Charlie Appleby-trained Tryster comfortably landed the nine-furlong Jebel Hatta on turf, while last year's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes hero Postponed madea winning debut for trainer Roger Varian in a Group 2 trial for the Dubai Sheema Classic on World Cup night.
