TEN Sovereigns looks the most likely Aidan O’Brien-trained runner in the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket next Saturday.

The three-year-old by No Nay Never looked a sprinter to follow when fifth in the one-mile 2000 Guineas but was slightly disappointing when only fourth in the six-furlong Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

He is rated a 10/1 shot to give connections another July Cup victory following that of U S Navy Flag a year ago. Commonwealth Cup winner Advertise (4/1) and Golden Jubilee Stakes runner-up Dream Of Dreams (4/1) are joint favourites.

The unbeaten Pistoletto (by War Front) could represent Ballydoyle in the Group 2 July Stakes on Thursday, when he may clash with Mark Johnston’s highly touted Visinari. Both Pistoletto’s wins to-date have come over five furlongs, at Tipperary and Naas. Visinari is a Dark Angel colt who made a huge impression when winning over the July Stakes course and distance a month ago.

Saturday’s card also features the Group 2 Superlative Stakes over seven furlongs, which may well attract highly-regarded runners from both Coolmore and Godolphin.

Last year’s Derby winner Masar is expected to take the next step on his comeback trail in the Group 2 Princess of Wales’s Stakes on Thursday. The Godolphin-owned colt finished fifth at Royal Ascot in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot after a troubled run.

The picture for Friday’s Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes will become much clearer today [Saturday] when the six-day entries are revealed. Dual Guineas heroine Hermosa would be a certain favourite if allowed to take her chance. Two likely British-trained contenders are William Haggas’s Curragh Group 2 winner Beshaayir and the Karl Burke-trained Laurens.
