Far Above has been retired to stud and will stand under the Compas Stallions banner at Starfield Stud in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, for 2021.

The four-year-old son of Farhh was trained by James Tate and looked destined for great things when he won the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket on 2000 Guineas day this year.

Sadly he suffered an injury in the race and did not run again. He retires having won four of his five lifetime starts.

“In an industry where success is reliant on speed, I am delighted to offer breeders Far Above, probably the fastest horse retiring to stud in 2021," said Micheál Orlandi of Compas Stallions. “Physically, he is breathtaking. An exciting addition to the Compas Stallion roster which highlights our commitment to bring speed to breeders."

CANTILLON CONNECTION

Far Above was acquired by Syndicates.Racing founder Jack Cantillon and will stand under his Bloodstock.Racing banner in association with Orlandi and Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum who has retained an interest.

“I’m thrilled to be able to purchase such a brilliant talent in Far Above. He blew me away twice this year - blitzing the Rowley Mile in 58secs in the Palace House and on inspection - he’s the equine equivalent of The Rock," said Cantillon. “Micheál and I are looking forward to having some fun and doing things differently to make a success of Far Above at stud and we would like to thank Sheikh Rashid Dalmook for his faith in our vision for his brilliant sprinter. We hope breeders will want to be part of that vision too.”

Far Above was sourced by Richard Brown of Blandford Bloodstock at the 2018 Tattersalls Guineas breeze-up sale for 105,000gns. “Far Above made one of the fastest times of the sale look effortless in his breeze," said Brown. "That precocity, his popular proven sire and imposing sprinter physique ticks all boxes for us."

Unraced at two, the horse won on debut in a seven-furlong maiden at Newmarket in the spring of his three-year-old campaign. However, it was at sprint distances where he shined. Dropped to six furlongs for his third start at Windsor, he won by five lengths. His final start at three years was in Deauville where he won a listed race, again over six furlongs.

His sole start this year, winning the Palace House Stakes on his first attempt at five furlongs, suggsted he was getting faster with age. “He has an electric pace like I’ve never seen. He’s the fastest horse I’ve ever trained," said Tate.

Far Above's sire Farhh is also responsible for Group 1 winner King Of Change, Derby runner-up Dee Ex Bee and Group 2 Royal Ascot winner Move Swiftly. He is out of a Shamardal mare and his dam Dorraar is out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Nahrain who in turn is the dam of the high-class Benbatl.

A fee for Far Above will be announced shortly and limited breeding rights are available.
