TOM Kidd, former trainer and more recently associated with the hugely successful Rashaan trained by his son Colin, died on June 1st at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife Amy (nee Nicholson), children Robert, Karen, Colin and Neil, daughters-in-law Beulah, Liz and Mary, son-in-law Kenneth, his sister Hazel Burgess, 11 grandchildren, and a large circle of family and friends.

His funeral service took place on Tuesday, June 4th at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Lorum, followed by burial in the adjoining churchyard.

Tom loved to hunt and he trained a number of winners over many years, finally relinquishing his licence about a decade ago.

His son took on the mantle and, in addition to Rashaan who is owned in partnership by Tom’s wife Amy, Colin also enjoyed Grade 3 success over fences with the mare Back Of The Pack, bought by Tom as a three-year-old for €8,000 and winner of seven races and more than €80,000.

The Kidd family operate from Kilgreaney Stud in Bagenalstown, Co Carlow and have asked that anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Tom should do so to either the Friends of St. Columba’s Hospital, Thomastown, Co Kilkenny or the Irish Injured Jockeys’ Fund.
