GALILEO’S dual classic-winning son Capri has been retired from racing and will stand at Grange Stud in Fermoy for 2020, under the Coolmore National Hunt banner.

Capri opened his account in a two-year-old maiden at the Galway Festival where he defeated subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Rekindling. The following week at Tipperary he made all to land a listed contest before coming from off the pace to win the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.

As a three-year-old, Capri won the Group 1 Irish Derby from Cracksman and Epsom winner Wing Of Eagles. The 2019 ‘Arc’ winner Waldgeist was fourth. After a midsummer break he outbattled Crystal Ocean and Stradivarius to win the Group 1 St Leger Stakes at Doncaster.

As four-year-old he returned to win the Group 3 Alleged Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Naas and finished fifth in the Arc behind Enable.

Capri is out of Dialafara, bred and raced by the Aga Khan. His second dam, Diamilina, is a daughter of Linamix, sire of French National Hunt stallion Martaline.

“Capri is a fine, big horse with a good head and a great walk, said Albert Sherwood. “He was a very high-class two-year-old and defeated all the best middle-distance colts of his generation as a three-year-old before again showing high class form at four. We couldn’t be more delighted that he’s coming to Grange.”
