Tony Osborne, a long-time director of Naas Racecourse, died on Saturday. His funeral mass took place on Monday. He was predeceased by his wife Joan and is survived by sons Michael and Paul and his daughters Catherine and Mary. He was a brother of Michael Osborne.

Coolmore Stud’s Clem Murphy has been re-elected for a four-year term to the board of the Breeders’ Cup, along with owner and breeder Fred Hertrich III. Mike Rogers from the Stronach Group is a new director. The other members of the board are Barbara Banke, Anthony Beck, Will Farish Jnr, Bobby Flay, Craig Fravel, Roy Jackson, Bret Jones, Bill Oppenheim, Dan Pride, David Richardson and Elliott Walden.

The catalogue for the BBAG September Yearling Sale is now online and contains 257 yearlings. The sale will be held in Baden-Baden on Friday, September 2nd. More than 300 yearlings will be offered at the Fasig-Tipton NY Bred Yearling Sale at Saratoga Springs, New York on Saturday and Sunday, August 13th and 14th. The catalogue is now online.

Entries close on Thursday, July 21st at 12 noon for the European Jockeys’ Cup meeting which will be held in the Czech capital Prague in September. The feature race is the €60,000 EJC Million over seven furlongs, open to three-year-olds and older. The initial cost to enter is just €59 and details are available at www.ejc2016.cz

Nearly $300,000 was raised on Sunday night at Fasig-Tipton for the Ann Hanley Parkinson’s Research Fund. The fund was established last year and benefited from a fundraiser organised by Jim and Geraldine Ryan of Milltown Stud last November at Goffs. A total of €157,000 was raised then.

Bankos Tales Productions has been successful in its application to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland for funding for their latest project for Irish television, The Irish Grand National – Chasing A Dream. The company’s AnnaMay Mullins told The Irish Field they were “delighted to receive approval for funding in the latest round of applications.” The company has previously produced excellent documentaries on Paddy Mullins and Punchestown.

BoyleSports has bought four outlets previously operated by Hacketts from the High Court appointed liquidators. The shops are in Cashel, Callan, Mountmellick and Rathkeale. They bring the total number of BoyleSports outlets to 212 in Ireland. PwC was appointed to act as liquidators of the Hacketts business and they closed all the 18 shops remaining after the company had restructured their operation. Hacketts had been in business for half a century.

Paul Gilligan, originally banned for six months by the British Horseracing Authority, is to have his appeal reheard. The panel that heard the trainer’s previous appeal included Matthew Lohn, who had on occasion been employed for the BHA and whose presence on such panels led to the possibility of an appearance of bias. Gilligan is to have his costs reimbursed and his appeal will now be held by a newly constituted panel. A date for the appeal has not been set.

Tony Martin has lodged an appeal against the €2,000 fine imposed by the stewards at Killarney on Tuesday. He is also appealing the 42-day suspension imposed on his runner Pyromaniac.

This weekend’s Corinthian Challenge at the Curragh in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund will have two new riders in Chris Byrne and Tracy Piggott. Tracy will also be on the Miriam O’Callaghan Show tonight.

The three chases scheduled for Roscommon on Tuesday, August 2nd have been abandoned due to damage to the chase course.
