CONTRAIL remains on course to emulate his sire Deep Impact by completing Japan’s Triple Crown of Guineas, Derby and St Leger wins.

Last Sunday the three-year-old recorded an easy success in the Kobe Shimbun Hai at Chukyo and he is now unbeaten in six lifetime starts. His next big test will come in the Kikiuka Sho (St Leger) at Kyoto on October 25th.

Trained by Yoshito Yahagi and ridden byYuichi Fukunaga, Contrail was sent off the 1/10 favourite to beat 17 rivals in last Sunday’s Group 2 contest over 11 furlongs.

Always going well, he eased to the front in the home straight and effortlessly drew clear in a race which was won by Deep Impact (2005) and Orfevre (2011) in their Triple Crown-winning seasons.

Yahagi has enjoyed international success in the past with Real Steel, winner of the 2016 Dubai Turf, and Lys Gracieux, who landed the Cox Plate last year.
