FREE Eagle, Sole Power and Highland Reel are the three Irish-trained invited runners for the 2015 Longines Hong Kong International Races.
The 10-furlong Cup on Sunday, December 13th is likely to be Free Eagle’s final start before he retires to the Irish National Stud.
Sole Power has run in the Sprint on three previous occasions, finishing second in 2013, but the six-furlong trip is not ideal for him.
Already a Grade 1 winner in the USA this season, the Aidan O’Brien-trained Highland Reel finished third in the Cox Plate on his most recent outing.
David O’Mears plans to run his globetrotter Mondialiste in the Mile. The five-year-old produced a career-best performance last time out when a fast-finishing second to Tepin in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Keeneland.
Prior to that great run, Mondialiste came from near last to capture the Woodbine Mile by a half-length.
O’Meara said: “Although it is obviously the other way around, the configuration of Sha Tin is probably more like Woodbine rather than Keeneland in the fact that you only have one turn. At Keeneland, you have two turns for the mile. The track at Sha Tin should be fine.”
